The Community Interest Company of Cove Head CIC was formed in June 2019 to oversee management of the moorings at Cove Head on the Cornish side of the River Tamar, about a mile south of the Royal Albert Bridge.

Our moorings run alongside the west bank, ending at the mouth of the River Lynher and are within the Tamar Estuaries European Marine Site. We enjoy all the wildlife which feeds in this rich ecosystem and regularly see seals, kingfishers, cormorants, herons and egrets right at the moorings. Upstream, the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Tamar-Tavy Estuary (Ecological Site of Special Scientific Interest) provide many peaceful anchorages which are safe and calm in virtually any conditions, and it is a pleasant day trip to the village of Calstock when the tides are right.

Cove Head is opposite the historic Devonport Dockyard and our moorings enjoy the security conferred by the vigilant MoD Police who patrol our local waters. The closest place to access our moorings is via the former HMS Defiance Jetty at Cove Head which is open to the public and has parking nearby at Wilcove village hall. Slightly further away, tenders can be launched in Wilcove Lake when the tide is right, or several of our members simply cross the water from Saltash which has supermarkets, pubs and restaurants and a busy sailing club.

For those heading out to sea, Plymouth Sound is only half an hour away and a coastal day sail gets you to Salcombe to the east or Fowey to the west. Further afield, the Channel Islands, Isles of Scilly, and Brittany are all reachable.

Something for everyone and every weather.
